Chapter Summary

Proverbs 19 opens with a contrast that runs against the grain of how most people think: better to be poor and walk in integrity than to be a perverse fool even if rich. The chapter consistently values character over status and wisdom over wealth.

Verse 17 is one of the most remarkable statements about generosity in all of Scripture: whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward them for what they have done. Giving to the poor is not charity with no return. It is a loan to God himself.

Verse 21 is the chapter's theological anchor: many are the plans in a person's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails. We plan. We strategize. And ultimately, a wisdom greater than ours is steering the whole thing.
