Chapter Summary
Proverbs 7 is unlike most chapters in the book. Instead of a list of contrasting proverbs, it is a story told in real time. Solomon watches from his window as a naive young man walks into a trap, and he narrates every step with precision.
The woman in the story is not portrayed as a monster. She is charming, persuasive, well-prepared, and seemingly sincere. That is precisely the point. The most dangerous temptations do not announce themselves as dangerous.
The final image is devastating: the young man follows her like an ox going to the slaughter, like a bird flying into a snare, not knowing it will cost him his life. Solomon frames the whole story as a reason to make wisdom your closest companion.
